From time to time I start a dev log, it always good to write down the progress made, what I have been planing and sometimes just share the random ideas on my mind.
If you follow my work, you might remember from some of my shares that I was working on a minimalistic sandbox/survivor game!
And while I really believe on the above, it is not something easy to keep up, it is very easy to let the devlog fall as a low priority task in our already busy life, and it fade away eventually.
But hey, we got persist right? So here we go, welcome to the first (again) Dev Log of Cherry Bit Studios!
I have not abandoned that game, but I kinda had a detour along the way, which is what I will talk about in this log!
I present to you: Gravedigger Doug! My interpretation of the classic arcade game Dig Dug:
That idea came to me a long time ago, the game is about a gravedigger called Doug, who has a strong spiritual perception and is always helping the spirits living in the graveyard.
One night, demons start to invade the graveyard and mess with the spirits and Doug has to come to their rescue!
I started that game on the weekend because I was randomly browsing Itch's IO game jams and saw that the Mini Jam of that week had the theme underground, which reminded me of that game idea that I had long ago, and decided to give it a try!
Well, life has not been easy lately, and I failed the game jam, I did somehow a good progress, but hardly enough to submit it to the Jam.
But that is ok, I decided that I would finish the game and publish it! Even if it is a Pocket Sized game (which by the way, this was the limitation on the jam, so it seems fitting).
So for now, Gravedigger Doug is the project I am focusing on, I don't expect this game taking too much time still, I made great progress this week and already have 12 leves done, I plan on implementing around 18~20 in total, so hopefully I will soon come back to the sandbox/survivor game I was working on before!
